Our next beach clean-up is getting closer and there are now only 9 days left until we come together to make a positive impact on the coastline of El Médano. On 28 February 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00, we will meet at Complejo Dunas to remove waste from the beach and help protect marine life and coastal ecosystems.
Beach clean-ups are about more than collecting litter. They’re about community, awareness, and taking responsibility for the places we enjoy. Every piece of waste removed from the beach is one less threat to marine life and one step toward a more sustainable future for Tenerife.
New Local Sponsors Supporting the Clean-Up
We’re especially excited to announce two new local sponsors, both based in El Médano, who are helping make this event even more special:
- El Med Veg will provide delicious vegan food and refreshing drinks for all participants after the clean-up. Trust us, it’s definitely be worth coming.
- Ori Surf, led by Domingo, is also supporting the initiative. As a passionate surfer and dedicated beach cleaner himself, his involvement highlights the strong connection between ocean sports and environmental responsibility.
By participating in our beach clean-up, you directly contribute to protecting marine biodiversity and reducing ocean pollution.
No previous experience is needed. Just bring comfortable clothing, sun protection, and your motivation to make a difference. We’ll take care of the rest — and of course, teamwork and good vibes are guaranteed.
Registration is required and available via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/entradas-beach-cleanup-complejo-dunar-el-medano-1980074748876?aff=oddtdtcreator
Let’s work together to keep El Médano’s beaches clean, healthy, and beautiful. Every piece of trash collected matters — and every volunteer counts.
See you on the beach!
Canary Green’s tips to enjoying sustainable tourism in Canary Islands
Visiting Canary Islands on holiday doesn’t give you free rein to leave your values and principles at home. We encourage travellers to seek out sustainable options and keep up with environmental practices while travelling. Our top tips for a relaxed and wholesome stay include:
- Consider green transport options. Are you able to take a ferry to the island instead of flying? While you are here is a car necessary? Investigate public transport links or choose green options such as electric cars, green-hydrogen cars or e-bikes.
- Choose destinations that value sustainability and choose green alternatives such as solar power, recycling and energy-efficient architecture. This extends to places that value workers’ rights and the impact on the local community.
- Bring your own water bottle with you and refill it instead of buying single-use plastic bottles.
- Make use of the recycling when out and about and don’t just throw your rubbish in the nearest bin.
- Take advantage of local knowledge and immerse yourself in the culture through campaigns such as #Ilovecanarias and #meatfreemondaycanarias.
- Most of all, have fun and enjoy your time in the Canary Islands.
