Collaborating for change: Beach Clean Up At El Callao

Last Thursday a group of students from Borders Collage joined us for a beach cleanup at El Callao, in Los Cristianos. El Callao, with its stunning rocky coves and clear waters, is one of Tenerife’s hidden treasures. However, like many other coastal areas, it faces ongoing challenges due to litter and environmental degradation. This particular beach cleanup event served as an opportunity for the students to actively engage with the environment, giving back to the community and making a tangible impact on the health of the local ecosystem.

The Impact We Made

During the cleanup, the team collected a variety of waste materials from the beach, including plastic bottles, wrappers, cigarette butts, and other debris that had accumulated along the shoreline.

Unfortunately, much of this waste ends up in our oceans, disrupting marine ecosystems and threatening the delicate balance of life beneath the waves. While our efforts may seem small, they contribute to a larger movement aimed at tackling this pressing issue and inspiring others to take action.

Why Beach Clean-Ups Matter

A beach cleanup is important because it helps protect marine life from harmful debris, prevents pollution from spreading to the ocean, and preserves the beauty of coastal ecosystems. By removing waste, we not only protect wildlife but also promote a cleaner, more sustainable environment. These efforts raise awareness, encourage responsible waste disposal, and bring communities together for a common cause—ensuring healthier beaches for everyone.

If you missed the event, don’t worry! The next beach clean-up at Playa El Barranco – Amarilla Golf on 29th March 2025. Bring your positive energy, and you’ll enjoy great connections and unforgettable moments with us.

If you want to get involved, here are some tips for your everyday life to prevent more plastic from ending up on the beautiful beaches:

  • Shop with a reusable bag instead of a plastic one.

  • Use bar soap instead of liquid hand soap.

  • When going for a picnic, eat off conventional tableware instead of disposable ones.

  • Do not use drinking straws.

  • And, if plastic is used, separate it when recycling (in the yellow bin)
