It is hard to stay on the beach when face to face with the enticing deep blue sea of Abades. Nestled along the southeastern shores of Tenerife, this stretch of sandy coastline boasts a reputation that extends far beyond its mere beauty. Abades is hailed as a scuba diver’s haven, where the conditions are nothing short of perfect for those eager to explore beneath the waves. Excel Scuba Dive Tenerife, a local dive shop in the charming town of Adeje invited the Canary Green team to dive into the world of marine life and provided us with the ideal dose of Canarian cool needed to beat the scorching August temperatures.

It’s heartening to witness how a passion for protecting our island paradise is seamlessly woven into a profound responsibility for the underwater world they hold dear.
A day of scuba diving in Tenerife
Just as the first beachgoers began to stretch their towels onto the fine black sand beach, Dave, Sean and the rest of the Excel Scuba Dive Tenerife team graciously took us under their wing, imparting the fundamentals of scuba diving in Tenerife with skill and enthusiasm. With a mix of excitement and anticipation and equipped with the necessary equipment, we embarked on our underwater journey. The turquoise currents unveiled an awe-inspiring canvas of marine life, rich and vibrant in its colours and diversity. One 6-metre dive introduced us to the basics of scuba diving and sparked a hunger to dive deeper and explore more of Tenerife’s underwater world.
Exploring Tenerife with experienced PADI Master divers
Buoyed by newfound confidence, we delved deeper on our second dive, this time descending to 12 metres below the surface. The underwater landscape transformed, revealing the nuanced tapestry of this underwater ecosystem.

Manta rays, cuttlefish, blue-fin damselfish and pipe fish entertained us as they glided through the calming expanse of topaz blue surrounding us. Each graceful movement seemed like a dance, a dance in which we were mere guests privileged to observe. As our sustainable adventure drew to a close, our hearts swelled with a newfound appreciation for the life teeming beneath the waves.
Giving back to the island through scuba diving
Our encounter with Excel Scuba Dive Tenerife was more than a simple exploration; it was an awakening. Through their expertise, dedication to conservation, and commitment to sharing the beauty of the underwater world, they not only introduced us to scuba diving but also to the profound responsibility we hold toward preserving the oceans. As our air tanks slowly became lighter, we emerged from the depths with a sense of gratitude and wonder, eager to share the tales of our adventure and the importance of safeguarding the aquatic wonders that had captured our hearts.
