In the Silence of Arrieta, Sustainability Speaks: Our Continued Collaboration

At Canary Green, we believe in building meaningful partnerships with changemakers who lead the way in sustainable tourism. That’s why we were so excited to be hosted once again by our long-time collaborators at Lanzarote Retreats—and to experience the eco-conscious charm of their flagship property, Finca de Arrieta.

Nestled in the quiet coastal village of Arrieta, Finca de Arrieta offers a unique blend of eco-luxury and off-grid living. With 21 thoughtfully designed self-catering accommodations—ranging from rustic stone cottages to spacious yurts and elegant villas—it’s a place where guests can reconnect with nature while enjoying modern comforts. Each unit includes a fully equipped kitchen, a private outdoor area, and stunning views of Lanzarote’s volcanic landscape.

More Than a Stay: A Lesson in Sustainable Living

What truly sets Lanzarote Retreats apart is their commitment to sustainability and education. As soon as you arrive, you’re gently encouraged to be part of their eco-lifestyle: turning off lights when not needed, keeping devices unplugged, and using energy mindfully. Simple but effective reminders around the property highlight how everyone—families included—can actively take part in reducing their energy use. You’re not just going off-grid—you’re learning why it matters.

Our team also had the chance to enjoy many of the finca’s relaxing spaces, like the solar-heated pool, the communal chill-out area, and the Honesty Shop, open 24/7 and stocked with local essentials. Families will love the play park, ping-pong table, and the chance to meet the friendly donkeys and chickens (and even collect fresh eggs!). For those looking to explore the island, Lanzarote Retreats makes it easy with hybrid car rentals—ours was delivered directly to our accommodation.

We’re especially grateful to Josh, the manager, and the entire team for their warm welcome and ongoing dedication to responsible tourism. Their personal touch and genuine hospitality made our stay feel like home.

Among the highlights of our visit was a trip to the Teguise Market, where we discovered incredible local products—some of which are also available at the finca itself. We also ventured to the Mirador del Río, taking in the breathtaking views of La Graciosa, and then headed off on an unforgettable boat trip around the island, soaking in its peaceful, untouched beauty.

At Canary Green, we’re proud to spotlight partners like Lanzarote Retreats—places that don’t just offer eco-travel, but actually live it. Whether you’re seeking a romantic getaway, a family adventure, or a mindful solo retreat, Finca de Arrieta is a true model of how sustainability and comfort can go hand in hand.

We’re already looking forward to our next stay. 🌿

3 tips from Lanzarote Retreats for other hotels on their way towards sustainability

Offer experiences rather than just a holiday. Experiences are what people take back with them. The stories from your guests are the best marketing.
Partner with local businesses to bring more value to the local economy. For example, at Finca de Arrieta, paella for Monday paella nights is delivered from a local restaurant.
Target the quality tourist rather than the quantity. The type of clients Lanzarote Retreats want to target are the ones who care about their impact on the environment and the local community. The clients who enjoy the simplicity and luxury of Finca de Arrieta will go on telling the world about how unique and amazing Lanzarote island is.
