If you’re looking to experience the beauty of Tenerife’s coastline while getting your adrenaline fix, a kayaking tour with Adventure Time in Palm-Mar should be high on your list! Nestled on the southwest coast of Tenerife, Palm-Mar offers the perfect spot for ocean adventures with its clear waters, scenic volcanic cliffs, and thriving marine life. Not only did we paddle through stunning landscapes, but we even found ourselves part of a unique wildlife rescue mission that made the day even more special.
Kayak is more then fun, it is an experience!
We began our adventure with a quick safety briefing and an overview of the kayak routes we’d be exploring. The team at Adventure Time provided all the gear we needed, including comfortable life jackets and stable, easy-to-handle kayaks. With everything prepared, we launched into the calm, crystal-clear waters, surrounded by the dramatic volcanic landscape that Tenerife is famous for.
As we paddled along the coast, the scenery only got more impressive. We passed hidden coves, sea caves, and rock formations carved by centuries of ocean waves. Our guide shared stories about the island’s history and geology, adding context to the breathtaking views. The paddle itself was perfect for both beginners and experienced kayakers, with plenty of spots to pause, relax, and just take in the beauty around us.
One of the highlights of kayaking in Palm-Mar is the chance to spot some of Tenerife’s incredible marine life. The area is home to dolphins, turtles, and a variety of fish that can sometimes be seen gliding beneath your kayak. We were lucky enough to spot a few dolphins in the distance, a magical experience that felt like a reward for simply being present in nature.
Rescuing a Pardela: A Special Moment
As we kayaked further along the coastline, one of our guides noticed a small bird floating in the water, unable to fly. It was a young pardela, a protected species that migrates to the Canary Islands to breed and nest. Unfortunately, these birds can sometimes get disoriented or exhausted, especially the young ones, and may end up stranded or injured in the water.
Without hesitation, our guide carefully approached the bird and managed to gently scoop it out of the water. Seeing this rescue unfold was inspiring – it was clear that the team at Adventure Time cared deeply about the wildlife they encountered. We placed the pardela in a safe spot on one of the kayaks, where it could rest as we paddled back.
A Visit to the Pardela Rescue Center
Once we returned to shore, the Adventure Time team took the rescued pardela to a local bird hospital for care. We were encouraged to check out @amigosdelaspardelas on Instagram, a group dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of pardelas and other seabirds in the Canary Islands. Following the account and learning about their work gave us even more appreciation for the importance of these rescue efforts.

Visiting Tenerife on holiday doesn’t give you free rein to leave your values and principles at home. We encourage travellers to seek out sustainable options and keep up with environmental practices while travelling. Our top tips for a relaxed and wholesome stay include:
- Consider green transport options. Are you able to take a ferry to the island instead of flying? While you are here is a car necessary? Investigate public transport links or choose green options such as electric cars, green-hydrogen cars or e-bikes.
- Choose destinations that value sustainability and choose green alternatives such as solar power, recycling and energy-efficient architecture. This extends to places that value workers’ rights and the impact on the local community.
- Bring your own water bottle with you and refill it instead of buying single-use plastic bottles.
- Make use of the recycling when out and about and don’t just throw your rubbish in the nearest bin.
- Most of all, have fun and enjoy your time in the Canary Islands.
