Last weekend, La Caleta came alive with a sense of purpose, as locals, tourists, families, and friends gathered to take part in a special mission: cleaning one of Tenerife’s most beautiful beaches. Our beach clean-up was more than just an environmental action; it was a day of community, awareness, and connection, reminding us of the power of people coming together for a shared cause.
A Team Effort for a Cleaner Coastline!
From early morning, volunteers of all ages arrived with smiles and determination, equipped with gloves, bags, and a strong sense of responsibility. With the support of our generous sponsors and passionate participants, we set out to make a real difference, and the results were nothing short of amazing. We didn’t limit ourselves to the beach, our clean-up crew was unstoppable! While many combed the sand for trash, some of our strongest and most adventurous volunteers tackled the nearby cliffs, climbing their way to pick up waste that was hidden away. Even more impressively, a few brave participants took to the water, retrieving debris that had drifted into the sea. Special thanks to Breathing Water for making this possible! Together, we covered every corner of La Caleta, leaving no stone or piece of trash unturned.
"A big pile of waste"
By the end of the event, we had collected a mountain of garbage. The amount of cigarette butts and plastic waste we found was shocking, serving as a reminder of the ongoing problem our oceans face. Cigarette filters, which take years to decompose, were scattered across the beach, while plastic bottles, bags, and other fragments littered the sand. It was a stark visual reminder of how our daily habits directly affect the environment. Beyond the clean-up itself, the event was a platform for raising awareness.
Children who joined us were able to see, up close, the harmful effects of littering. They learned that cigarette butts, plastics, and other waste do not belong in the ocean and that they have a role to play in protecting the planet for future generations. It was heartwarming to see their curiosity turn into understanding, and we hope these lessons will stay with them for life. But the event wasn’t just about cleaning up; it was also about fostering a sense of community. New friendships blossomed as people worked side by side, united by a common goal. Everyone exchanged stories and laughs as they picked up trash, proving that environmental action can be both meaningful and fun. By the time we wrapped up, many of us left not just with a sense of accomplishment but with new friends.
A Day to Remember, Thanks to Our Sponsors and Volunteers!
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the help of our incredible sponsors. Their support allowed us to provide supplies, refreshments, and delicious sandwiches for all the eco-warriors who gave their time and energy. After hours of hard work, the sandwiches, cold beers and softs were a well-deserved treat, and they gave everyone a chance to relax, share their experiences, and enjoy the beauty of La Caleta with a sense of pride.
To our sponsors and every single person who joined us, thank you! You helped make this event a success, and together, we made a positive impact on our environment. The success of this clean-up showed that when we unite for a cause, we can achieve incredible things. Special than you to Tenerife Horse Rescue & Ecoimplicados for joining with such a group!

A Movement for Change: Join Us at the Next Clean-Up
While we made a huge dent in the amount of litter on La Caleta’s beach, this is just the beginning. Our beach clean-up was part of a broader movement towards sustainability and environmental care, and we’re not stopping here. If you want to get involved, here are some tips for your everyday life to prevent more plastic from ending up on the beautiful beaches:
Shop with a reusable bag instead of a plastic one.
Use bar soap instead of liquid hand soap.
When going for a picnic, eat off conventional tableware instead of disposable ones.
Do not use drinking straws.
And, if plastic is used, separate it when recycling (in the yellow bin)
