Recently, Canary Green had the pleasure of welcoming a group of geography students from NTU to Callao Salvaje for a day dedicated to learning, connection, and hands-on sustainability action.
The goal was simple: to show future professionals how tourism, hospitality, and local communities can work together to protect the Canary Islands, and how Canary Green is helping to make that happen.
Starting the day at MYND Hotel
The day began at MYND Hotel in Callao Salvaje, one of our local partners in sustainable tourism. The students received a presentation from Borja and were introduced to the hotel’s sustainability practices . From the way they manage resources to how they engage guests in more responsible choices during their stay.

Sharing Canary Green’s mission
After MYND Hotel’s presentation, it was time for our own team to step forward. We introduced the students to Canary Green’s mission:
Promoting sustainable tourism in the Canary Islands
Supporting local businesses that care about people and the planet
Creating inspiring stories that motivate travellers and residents to act more responsibly
We also presented our sustainability program, explaining how we:
Connect students, locals, and businesses through real-life projects
Organise events and clean-ups to protect our natural environment
Use storytelling, blogs, and social media to highlight positive examples across the islands
Beach clean-up at Callao Salvaje
No Canary Green experience would be complete without some hands-on impact.
Together with the students, we headed down to the local beach in Callao Salvaje for a beach clean-up session. Equipped with bags and gloves, everyone spread out along the shoreline, collecting plastic, cigarette butts, and other waste that doesn’t belong in our ocean.
To make things a bit more fun, we rewarded two students who collected the most rubbish with a small prize kindly provided by AngelotArt. A creative and meaningful way to say “thank you” for their dedication.
It is a powerful reminder that even small actions can make a big difference, especially when done together.

Refuel at L’Osteria
After the clean-up, our friends at L’Osteria welcomed the group with refreshing drinks and fresh fruit. This was the perfect moment for everyone to relax, connect, and reflect on the experience.
Why this day matters for Canary Green
Hosting the NTU geography students was more than just a visit it was a chance to:
Inspire future professionals to think sustainably
Showcase real examples of responsible tourism in the Canary Islands
Strengthen our local network of partners committed to positive change
At Canary Green, we believe that education, collaboration, and action on the ground are key to building a greener future for the islands. Days like this prove that when NGOs, hotels, restaurants, artists, and students come together, impactful things can happen.
Thank you to our partners
This day would not have been possible without the support of our amazing partners:
MYND Hotel – for hosting the group and sharing their sustainability journey
AngelotArt – for providing beautiful prizes for our beach clean-up winners
L’Osteria – for welcoming everyone with drinks and fruit after the clean-up
And of course, a big thank you to the NTU geography students for their energy, curiosity, and hard work on the beach. We are looking forward to creating an annual event and inspiring new students next year.
Canary Green’s tips to enjoying sustainable tourism in Canary Islands
Visiting Canary Islands on holiday doesn’t give you free rein to leave your values and principles at home. We encourage travellers to seek out sustainable options and keep up with environmental practices while travelling. Our top tips for a relaxed and wholesome stay include:
- Consider green transport options. Are you able to take a ferry to the island instead of flying? While you are here is a car necessary? Investigate public transport links or choose green options such as electric cars, green-hydrogen cars or e-bikes.
- Choose destinations that value sustainability and choose green alternatives such as solar power, recycling and energy-efficient architecture. This extends to places that value workers’ rights and the impact on the local community.
- Bring your own water bottle with you and refill it instead of buying single-use plastic bottles.
- Make use of the recycling when out and about and don’t just throw your rubbish in the nearest bin.
- Take advantage of local knowledge and immerse yourself in the culture through campaigns such as #Ilovecanarias and #meatfreemondaycanarias.
- Most of all, have fun and enjoy your time in the Canary Islands.
Thank you
