On Thursday, June 5th, we proudly participated in AronaNature’s World Environment Day event—or as it’s known in Spanish, “Día Mundial del Medioambiente.”
We’re truly grateful to Javier from Ekooke Estudio, the main organizer of the event, for his dedication and effort in making it all possible.
We also want to thank Clara, First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for the Department of Environment, Sustainability, and Public Services, from the Arona City Council, for her support and collaboration in this initiative.
A big shoutout to Cruz Creative for beautifully capturing the day’s atmosphere on video, and to Innoceana and OceanAngel for joining us and sharing their passion for ocean conservation.
As Canary Green, we were honored to kick off the program with a beach clean-up at Playa de las Américas, helping to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our coastline and preserving our natural spaces.

Building Hope Through Play and Innovation
It was especially inspiring to see children joining in — learning, exploring, and helping build a greener, more hopeful future.
One of the highlights of the day was the Recycle Music concert, where creativity met sustainability. The performers used old pans, buckets, and everyday objects to create rhythm and energy, proving that music — like change — can come from the most unexpected places.
There were also interactive group activities for kids, designed to teach environmental values through play. From crafting to games, everything was focused on connecting with nature and understanding the impact of our choices.
And for those up for a challenge, there was a fun (and surprisingly effective) way to blend a smoothie — by pedaling a bike! As you turned the wheels, the energy powered a blender filled with fruit, demonstrating firsthand how our own movement can create real change.

The events at Playa de las Américas underscored this insight. Through activities such as the Recycle Music concert, educational group sessions, and the bike-powered smoothie blender, participants engaged directly with sustainable practices. These experiences reinforced the importance of individual and collective responsibility in environmental stewardship. Meaningful change begins with awareness and action, and together, we can contribute to a more sustainable future.
Canary Green’s tips to enjoying sustainable tourism in Tenerife
Visiting Tenerife on holiday doesn’t give you free rein to leave your values and principles at home. We encourage travellers to seek out sustainable options and keep up with environmental practices while travelling. Our top tips for a relaxed and wholesome stay include:
- Consider green transport options. Are you able to take a ferry to the island instead of flying? While you are here is a car necessary? Investigate public transport links or choose green options such as electric cars, green-hydrogen cars or e-bikes.
- Choose destinations that value sustainability and choose green alternatives such as solar power, recycling and energy-efficient architecture. This extends to places that value workers’ rights and the impact on the local community.
- Bring your own water bottle with you and refill it instead of buying single-use plastic bottles.
- Make use of the recycling when out and about and don’t just throw your rubbish in the nearest bin.
- Take advantage of local knowledge and immerse yourself in the culture through campaigns such as #Ilovecanarias and #meatfreemondaycanarias.
- Most of all, have fun and enjoy your time in the Canary Islands.
Thank you
