Together for Cleaner Oceans: An Incredible Beach Cleanup Day in Los Cristianos

Last Saturday, we worked hard together with amazing volunteers. At Playa Callao in Los Cristianos, we came together as a community to show our love for the planet and our determination to protect it. It was an incredible day of teamwork, hope, and meaningful impact that left us all feeling inspired. Here’s a full recap of the day that reminded us of the power of collective action.

The Impact We Made

With the help of enthusiastic volunteers, we collected around 500 kg of trash from the beach and surrounding areas. That’s half a ton of waste that no longer poses a threat to marine life or pollutes our coastline. Every piece of rubbish removed represents a step toward cleaner seas and a healthier environment for all.

The trash we collected included everything from plastic bottles and food wrappers to cigarette butts and other single-use plastics. Seeing the amount of waste firsthand was eye-opening, it’s a reminder of how much work we still have ahead of us.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Supporters

This impactful event would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors and partners: Ashotel, OoceanbeerParticipación y Voluntariado Ambientales de Tenerife and the Ayuntamiento Arona. Your belief in our mission and dedication to making a difference made all of this possible. Your sponsorship helped provide resources, coordination, and awareness to make this cleanup a massive success.

To all the amazing volunteers who showed up ready to make a difference, you are the true heroes. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. Your commitment is proof that together, we can make a real and lasting change.

Why Beach Clean-Ups Matter

Our cleanup wasn’t just about removing trash—it was about creating change and sparking awareness. Events like this remind us of the urgent need to rethink our relationship with waste, especially single-use plastics.

The amount of cigarette butts and disposable plastics we found highlights the ongoing challenges our planet faces. These items are not just unsightly; they’re harmful to marine life, birds, and even humans. By removing this waste and bringing attention to the problem, we’re taking essential steps to protect our planet for future generations.

This effort also strengthens the sense of community and purpose. When we come together to tackle an issue like pollution, we’re not just cleaning up—we’re building a movement of people who care about the environment and are ready to take action.

The momentum doesn’t stop here! We’re excited to announce our next beach cleanup event, happening on February 22nd in El Médano. This is another opportunity to come together, make a difference, and continue the important work of protecting our coastlines. Mark your calendars and stay tuned to our social media channels for updates and details on how to participate.

If you want to get involved, here are some tips for your everyday life to prevent more plastic from ending up on the beautiful beaches:

  • Shop with a reusable bag instead of a plastic one.

  • Use bar soap instead of liquid hand soap.

  • When going for a picnic, eat off conventional tableware instead of disposable ones.

  • Do not use drinking straws.

  • And, if plastic is used, separate it when recycling (in the yellow bin)
