Last Saturday at Playa El Médano, we faced some strong winds, but they didn’t stand a chance against our spirit! Despite the challenges, our amazing group of volunteers came together, united by our shared love for the planet. It was a day full of energy, teamwork, and determination to make a real difference. We proved that nothing can stop us when we work together for a better future.
The Impact We Made
The 90 kg of trash we collected serves as a powerful reminder of how our actions are helping raise awareness about the massive pollution affecting our environment. Among the trash, we found glass bottles, lounge chair sponges, cigarette butts, and, wet wipes.
Unfortunately, much of this waste ends up in our oceans, disrupting marine ecosystems and threatening the delicate balance of life beneath the waves. hile our efforts may seem small, they contribute to a larger movement aimed at tackling this pressing issue and inspiring others to take action.

First and foremost, we would like to sincerely thank our sponsors and partners: Ashotel, Oceanbeer, Participación y Voluntariado Ambientales de Tenerife and the Ayuntamiento Arona. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you. Thank you for believing in our mission and for helping us make a real difference together.
Similarly, we would like to express our gratitude to all the volunteers who recognize and share our passion for this important issue. Thank you for dedicating your time and effort to support this event.

Why Beach Clean-Ups Matter
Events like these help raise awareness about the growing pollution in our seas and rivers, which is not only harming marine life but also having a direct impact on humans.
In the article Effects of Microplastics on Fish and Human Health (2022), Simul Byuhan highlights the growing concern over microplastics (MPs) and their harmful impact on both fish and humans. MPs can damage fish tissues, cause oxidative stress, and alter immune system function. In humans, exposure to MPs has been linked to oxidative stress, toxicity, immune system disruption, and the potential transfer of microplastics to various tissues, raising significant health concerns.
Recognizing the severity of this issue, we are taking action and are determined to make a difference. The message we want to share is clear: you are not alone. Together, as a community, we are stronger, and it is through our collective effort that we can bring about real, positive change in our environment.
If you missed the event, don’t worry! The next beach clean-up at Playa El Barranco – Amarilla Golf on 29th March 2025. Bring your positive energy, and you’ll enjoy great connections and unforgettable moments with us.

If you want to get involved, here are some tips for your everyday life to prevent more plastic from ending up on the beautiful beaches:
Shop with a reusable bag instead of a plastic one.
Use bar soap instead of liquid hand soap.
When going for a picnic, eat off conventional tableware instead of disposable ones.
Do not use drinking straws.
And, if plastic is used, separate it when recycling (in the yellow bin)
