Starting the day with Yoga-Tenerife in El Médano felt truly special. Instead of the usual studio setting, we rolled out our mats right on the beach, with the rising sun above us and the Atlantic stretching out in front. The mix of fresh sea air, soft sand underfoot, and the sound of waves created a calm energy that set the perfect tone for the practice.
Eva, our instructor, welcomed everyone with a smile and guided us through a session that combined movement, breathing, and relaxation. Her style is gentle yet motivating, making it easy for beginners to feel comfortable while still giving experienced yogis the chance to deepen their practice.
A Class for Everyone
What stood out the most was how inclusive the class felt. Some people were complete beginners, others practiced yoga regularly, but Eva from Yoga-Tenerife managed to create a flow that worked for everyone. She often reminded us to listen to our bodies, adjust poses if needed, and simply enjoy the moment. It wasn’t about perfection, it was about finding balance, breathing deeply, and reconnecting with yourself in the middle of Tenerife’s stunning nature.

Why is Yoga good option?
One of the reasons yoga is such a powerful practice is the wide range of benefits it brings, both for body and mind. It helps to reduce stress by calming the nervous system and creating a sense of inner peace. At the same time, yoga builds strength and flexibility, keeping the whole body healthy and balanced. After a session, you don’t feel drained but instead, you feel refreshed and full of new energy. Regular practice also supports self-discovery, helping you connect more deeply with yourself while maintaining a youthful spirit and positive outlook.

Combine Yoga with Exploring El Médano
Joining Yoga-Tenerife session on the beach is also a wonderful opportunity to explore El Médano, one of the most charming towns in Tenerife. Known for its laid-back atmosphere, golden sandy beaches, and vibrant surf culture, El Médano is the perfect place to spend a relaxing day. After your practice, you can stroll through the town’s cozy streets, enjoy fresh local food in one of the beachside cafés, or simply watch the kitesurfers dance across the waves. Combining yoga with a visit to El Médano gives you not only a healthy start to the day, but also the chance to experience the authentic, local side of Tenerife.
Canary Green’s tips to enjoying sustainable tourism in Canary Islands
Visiting Canary Islands on holiday doesn’t give you free rein to leave your values and principles at home. We encourage travellers to seek out sustainable options and keep up with environmental practices while travelling. Our top tips for a relaxed and wholesome stay include:
- Consider green transport options. Are you able to take a ferry to the island instead of flying? While you are here is a car necessary? Investigate public transport links or choose green options such as electric cars, green-hydrogen cars or e-bikes.
- Choose destinations that value sustainability and choose green alternatives such as solar power, recycling and energy-efficient architecture. This extends to places that value workers’ rights and the impact on the local community.
- Bring your own water bottle with you and refill it instead of buying single-use plastic bottles.
- Make use of the recycling when out and about and don’t just throw your rubbish in the nearest bin.
- Take advantage of local knowledge and immerse yourself in the culture through campaigns such as #Ilovecanarias and #meatfreemondaycanarias.
- Most of all, have fun and enjoy your time in the Canary Islands.
