Futouris' 'Travel Without Plastic' Event in Tenerife Sparks Change in Sustainable Tourism Practices
Traveling can be an incredible source of inspiration and joy, but it can also have a negative impact on the environment if we’re not careful. That’s why events like “Travel Without Plastic“ are so important – they bring together companies and individuals who are committed to reducing their plastic consumption and finding more sustainable travel options.
Today Canary Green was part of the Travel Without Plastic event at the Hotel Villa Suite Maria in Costa Adeje, Tenerife. It was an amazing opportunity to connect with others and learn more about sustainable travel.
The event was organized by Furious, a company that specializes in sustainable events, as well as Travel Without Plastic, an organization dedicated to reducing plastic waste in the travel industry. Futouris is a German-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable tourism practices. One of their main focuses is reducing plastic waste in the travel industry, which is why they were a key sponsor of the “Travel Without Plastic” event in Tenerife. The event brought together representatives from a number of companies who are committed to making a positive impact on the environment, including hotels, airlines, and travel agencies.
More About the travel without plastic event
One of the significant challenges that the travel industry faces is the excessive use and disposal of single-use plastics such as straws, utensils, and packaging. These plastics are harmful to the environment, and as travelers, we have a responsibility to reduce our plastic footprint. Events like “Travel Without Plastic” offer a platform to bring together various stakeholders in the industry and create a dialogue to find more sustainable solutions. Today all participants set a perfect example of how an industry can come together to tackle a growing problem. The range of companies involved, from small businesses to prominent hotel chains, demonstrated that there is a widespread desire for change. It is necessary to take collective action to address the issue of plastic waste, and by working together, a more significant impact can be made.
The “Travel Without Plastic” event was also significant because of how it raised awareness about the impact of plastic waste on the environment. By educating diverse audiences, events like this can help people make more conscious decisions while traveling and take action to reduce their plastic consumption.
Several companies took part in the “Travel Without Plastic” event in Tenerife, each with their own unique contributions towards reducing plastic waste in the travel industry. Eco Whale Wise, for example, provides educational whale watching tours that highlight the importance of preserving marine ecosystems. Xeira creates eco-friendly fashion items using sustainable materials like bamboo and organic cotton. Flor y Amor creates handmade, organic cosmetics that are free from harmful chemicals and plastic packaging. Agüita offers refillable water bottles, reducing the need for single-use plastic bottles.
Protisa, a leading supplier of hotel textiles, has also committed to reducing the environmental impact of their products by incorporating recycled and sustainable materials. HORECA is an organization that represents the hospitality sector in the Canary Islands, and has made a point to promote sustainability and reduction of plastic waste across their member companies. Vero is a cosmetics company that offers eco-friendly and biodegradable personal care products, such as bamboo toothbrushes and solid shampoo bars. Aqua KMO provides public water fountains that offer tourists access to free, clean drinking water, and helps to encourage more sustainable travel habits.
These companies and many others that participated in the “Travel Without Plastic” event demonstrate that it is possible to make a significant difference in reducing plastic waste in the travel industry.
Their commitment to sustainability and innovative solutions should inspire us all to consider what we can do to reduce our plastic footprint and adopt more sustainable travel practices.

In short
how to avoid plastic:
•reducing the amount of single-use plastic
•adopting eco-friendly alternatives to plastic, like biodegradable materials, reusable and refillable products, and compostable packaging.
•Participate in community clean-up events or organize your own to remove plastic litter from your local environment
•Avoid products with microbeads, which are tiny plastic particles often found in personal care and cleaning products, as they can end up in the oceans
Reducing Plastic: Shifting Attitudes Towards Sustainability
Reducing plastic waste has become an essential global issue that affects the environment, human health, and wildlife. Plastic products are ubiquitous in our daily lives, from packaging materials to personal care products and clothing. They are lightweight, durable, and cheap to produce, but they also have a significant impact on the environment.
Plastic waste takes hundreds of years to decompose, polluting the oceans, waterways, and landfills. As plastics break down, they release harmful chemicals that can contaminate the soil and water sources, affecting plant and animal life. Moreover, plastics have a severe impact on marine wildlife, who often confuse plastic waste for food, leading to entanglement, ingestion, and suffocation.
Reducing the use of plastic is of great importance as it can have a significant impact on reducing the amount of waste that is generated. It can also help shift our attitudes towards more sustainable choices, encouraging us to use more environmentally friendly products and practice responsible disposal of plastic waste.
A More Sustainable Future: The Case for Reducing Plastic Waste
It is time for all of us to start making a difference, and events such as “Travel Without Plastic” show us the way forward. By reducing our plastic consumption and adopting more sustainable travel practices, we can preserve our environment for generations to come.
Together, we can tackle the plastic waste issue by making conscious choices in our daily lives and encouraging businesses and hotels to do their part. By working together, we can create a healthier, cleaner, and more sustainable future for our planet and future generations.
Let’s take action now, reduce our plastic consumption, and protect our planet and its inhabitants.
